Miracle Weekend in Review - Part 1

Well, Miracle Weekend is now more than two weeks behind us. This was an incredible experience for so many people in our church and community. More importantly this was an incredible experience for the church itself. This weekend gave us a glimpse of the opportunities for reaching out to the community that are available to us through our new outreach center.

All of you should deserve and have our gratitude for the pulling together and helping make this weekend such a wonderful success. I received feedback personally on a number of aspects from the weekend. Many people had positive comments on the concerts and music throughout the weekend. Special thanks were mentioned by many people for Steve and Vonnie Mossberg and Trevor Jackson. If you looked closely you might have discovered some well concealed cots where these individuals slept over the weekend to insure that they were there to help make this weekend a success. All joking aside, these three deserve a lot of credit for the time and effort they put in before and during this weekend. Another individual that deserves a great deal of credit is Wayne Abels. He put in a lot of work to insure that the kids events, among others, went of without a hitch. The above individuals make up the Events Team that spearheaded Miracle Weekend. Please express your gratitude to them in person when you see them.

I also received an email of thanks from Steve Mossberg, which I will include below.

Our Miracle Weekend was a Great success! The music was a success because of the efforts of Trevor Jackson! Trevor, among other things, arranged for the sound system, contacted Angel Dean (who appeared at no charge), and was the brains behind the ease of setup and tear down for the six praise bands. It would have been a very different, and less quality event, without his efforts!

A big thanks to all who helped set up for our Miracle Weekend. Trevor and Laurie Jackson, Vonnie Mossberg, Mike Colwill, Steve Ziebarth, and Wayne Ables spent parts of Thursday and Friday setting up and ironing out the final details for the event.

Also a big thanks to the guys at Fink Electric who were setting overhead lights up until 4 PM Friday. Their flexibility and willingness to go out of their way was a big help!

Thanks to Wayne Ables for arranging for Phil Baker to come and entertain the kids. And for arranging for and hauling the jump house and popcorn machine (all three were big successes...ask the kids!).

A big thanks to Jorjann Blake for all the time and effort in setting up the prayer room for our event.

Thanks to everyone who volunteered! We were over-planned and over-staffed, which was a VERY good thing. - Steve Mossberg.

If you received the church newsletter in the mail you may have noticed Pastor Steve's entry. I would like to include that here, as well.

Dear Friends,

I believe we all owe a debt of gratitude to those who worked so incredibly hard on the Miracle Weekend. It was an amazing weekend for our church and for those community friends who attended. The weekend included something for everyone, from the smallest of children to mature adults. It was great fun and meaningful for all who participated. Thank you to the "Dream Team" for your hard work, but special thanks goes out to Steve and Vonnie Mossberg, Trevor Jackson, Wayne Abels, and Mike Colwill. These people served on the "Events Team," a sub-committee of the "Dream Team," which planned and executed the weekend with efficiency and class. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

It's truly a miracle when you can have a schedule of events that includes eight different groups performing in one day - and every group was on stage at the right time, with the proper equipment, the appropriate lighting, and great sound. It was great work for a bunch of amateurs trying to do everything in their power to bring honor and glory to God.

It's also a miracle when a congregation can move from the vision of a much-needed Outreach Center to hosting a wonderful event that shows us the incredible possibilities for that space. Let's work together to utilize the new Outreach Center for God's work in this corner of the world. I am truly honored to be in ministry with all of you!

In love, Steve

In the near future I will be including a number of pictures and videos from events throughout the weekend. There were some wonderful pictures taken over the course of the weekend. If you would like to add to our collection and give us the opportunity to share you picture(s) with our church and friends of the church please email the pictures directly to me at kanteker@gmail.com. I would love to see and use them at the church or on this newsletter site.

I will leave you with a video of some of the events that took place Friday Night during Miracle Weekend. If you'll remember those events included the free barbecue and the concert by Celia Whitler. The video us under five minutes. I hope you enjoy it.

- Mike Colwill

P.S. Steve's sermon from Sunday morning will be posted as soon as I get the chance. I'm having trouble uploading the file to my audio hosting site as their server is down at the moment. Please look forward to that in the next day or two. Thanks for your patience.

"C...H...R...I...S...T...I...A...N" Sunday's Sermon

Here is the audio from Pastor Steve's sermon during the first service on Sunday, November 11, 2007. One note, the audio pick-up for the scripture reading, done by Jon Ziebarth, was not the best. We had to amplify the sound, which caused some noise in the background. Once the scripture reading is done, after about two minutes, and the sermon has started the background noise will disappear.

Please let me know how you like having sermons available on the internet. We appreciate your feedback on all of our content. Have a great week!

Cottage Meeting Presentation

Most of you are aware that we have been holding a number of Cottage Meetings with members and friends of Southern Hills Church in order to inform people about who we are. The meetings included information on our current ministries, our future ministries, some budget information, and a lot more. These meetings have been wonderful times of learning and discussion.

Unfortunately, not everyone has been able to attend these meetings. To compensate for this th Cottage Meeting information was presented during both services on Sunday, October 28. Pastor Steve gave a summary of the information we cover in our smaller cottage meetings. We are placing the audio from one of these presentations here in this article so that we catch as many people as possible with this information. I am also including scans of all the material we shared with people in the meetings and during Sunday's services. I hope that you can refer to those scanned images below as you listen to the Cottage Meeting content.

The information in these meetings is much more important than awareness surrounding the church's finances. The information presented talks about a vision that Southern Hills Church has had to reach out to the world and be the hands and feet of Christ. This vision is becoming a mission for us with the building of our new addition. This addition provides us with so many opportunities to do God's work in our community and city. I pray that you will listen to this information and prayerfully consider everything you hear. God bless.

The Poll function isn't working

Sorry, everyone. The poll was only up for a day. I had to remove it as the first answer that anyone would give locked the poll up so that nobody else could place their own vote. Anyway, I will be doing some research into that glitch and see if I can't get it figured out.

I would still like to know everyone's answer to the poll question. I will place the question below, and encourage you to leave your answer by leaving a comment to this post or the original post explaining the poll. Or you can email me directly at kanteker@gmail.com.

Poll Question:

Would you like us to add a section with links to the personal and professional websites of our members and friends so that you can find them easily? Would you participate?

Possible Answers
  • Yes, I would be interested in checking out my church family's personal and professional websites.
  • No, I would not be interested in checking out my church family's personal and professional websites.
  • I would be interested in having my personal or professional website listed in the Online Newsletter.
I look forward to hearing everyone's answers to this.

God Speed,

Michael Colwill

Our First Poll

I've decided to try a new feature on Blogger, the site which hosts our Online Newsletter. They have a polling function which allows us to do small surveys with our readers.

This time I've decided to hunt for more content for our Online Newsletter. I would like to promote and support our church members and friends by listing links to their personal and professional websites. This would be a great opportunity for our church members for a number of reasons. By checking out the personal websites of our church members you'd be able to learn more about the people that make our congregation such a wonderful family. By checking our the professional websites of our church members you can learn about the ways our members interact with the community around us in a professional role. By listing your own professional website you may even draw in some additional business from your friends and family at Southern Hills who may not have known your profession previously.

I want to say all church member websites are welcome, but I will place one caveat on that statement. Please make sure that your website is church appropriate. If you have a MySpace page that is filled with advertising that may not be church related, or may be inappropriate for all of our members to be viewing (don't forget our youth, people) you may not want to include that. However, if you have a personal website, blog, or online community web page I'd love to include it. Likewise, if you own your own business and would like to promote that business to the congregation I'd like to include your website. No, I'm not selling advertising. No, I'm not going to place a large banner advertising your product or services. Just a simple little link to your professional website.

Please take the poll. If we have a decent response from everyone I will send out a request for website URLs, names of websites, etc, so we can get our list put together. Keep in mind, this list is going to look similar to the Links section in the sidebar, nothing fancy.

If your respond with a yes to the poll, and would like to participate with your website, feel free to email me personally at kanteker@gmail.com, and I will keep track of your website information until I start posting the list. Also, if you have any suggestions feel free to leave a comment for this post, or to email me directly again.

God Speed,

Michael Colwill

P.S. If the poll goes well, look for more of them in the future. After each poll has been completed, I will put up the results in another Online Newsletter post. Thanks.

A Letter from Pastor Steve

Friends,

There are a several important things I'd like to share with you before Sunday morning.

  • Please remember that Sunday, October 7th is World Communion Sunday and Confirmation Sunday. I pray that you will come to worship and support and affirm our young people who will be confirmed.
  • During the worship service, you will also have an opportunity to reaffirm your baptismal vows and renew your commitment to Jesus Christ. My prayer is that many of you will come forward for that renewal.
  • The monthly Ministry Team meetings and the Leadership Team meeting have been changed for October. We will meet on Wednesday, October 10, 2007. Ministry Teams will meet at 7:00 P.M. and the Leadership Team will meet at 8:00 P.M. This change has been made to accommodate the "Cottage Meetings" for our Celebrate A Miracle Stewardship Campaign.
  • When you are invited to attend a "Cottage Meeting" at the home of one of the members of your church family, I hope you will respond affirmatively and take the time to attend. We would like 100% participation at the "Cottage Meetings" and 100% of our members and friends returning their commitment of support for the ministry of our church.
  • We will all return our commitments of support for the ministries of Southern Hills Church on Sunday, November 4, 2007. We will only have one service @ 10:00 A.M. on that day. The service will be held in the new multi-purpose room. Thank you in advance for your careful and prayerful consideration of your commitment for 2008 and following.
  • Sunday School on November 4, 2007 will be held at 9:00 A.M.
  • Please keep Jaxson Kyler Phillips and his mom and dad in your prayers. Jaxson was baptized at the 9:00 A.M. service on September 30, 2007.
  • Please keep Abbey and Jonathan Guenthner in your prayers. They were married at Southern Hills on Saturday, September 29th.
  • One of our church families has offered a $2,000 matching grant to help pay our conference apportionments. They would like the congregation to match the grant 5 to 1. That would pay our apportionments in full for 2007. Pray about your response to this wonderful gift. Then get out your check book or wallet and help meet the goal of raising the $10,000 to match this remarkable gift.
  • This song was done by the Kingston Trio in the 1960's, but is very applicable to our Stewardship Campaign. Read it. Enjoy it. And then think about how it applies to you and your commitment to our ministries.

Desert Pete

Artist: The Kingston Trio (peak Billboard position # 33 in 1963)
Words and Music by Billy Edd Wheeler

I was travellin' West a buckskin on my way to a cattle run
Cross a little cactus desert under a hot blisterin' sun
I was thirsty down to my toenails, stopped to rest me on a stump
But I tell ya I just couldn't believe it when I saw that water pump
I took it to be a mirage at first, it'll fool a thirsty man
Then I saw a note stuck in a bakin' powder can
"This pump is old", the note began, "but she works so give'r a try"
"I put a new sucker washer in 'er, you may find the leather dry"

"You've got to prime the pump, you must have faith and believe"
"You've got to give of yourself 'fore you're worthy to receive"
"Drink all the water you can hold, wash your face, cool your feet"
"Leave the bottle full for others, Thank You kindly, Desert Pete"

"Yeah, you'll have to prime the pump, work that handle like there's a fire"
"Under that rock you'll find some water I left in a bitters jar"
"Now there's just enough to prime it with so dontcha go drinkin' first"
"You just pour it in and pump like mad, buddy, you'll quench your thirst"

"You've got to prime the pump, you must have faith and believe"
"You've got to give of yourself 'fore you're worthy to receive"
"Drink all the water you can hold, wash your face, cool your feet"
"Leave the bottle full for others, Thank You kindly, Desert Pete"

Well I found that jar and I tell ya nothin' was ever prettier to my eye
And I was tempted strong to drink it, cuz that pump looked mighty dry
But the note went on "have faith my friend, there's water down below"
"You got to give until you get
I'm the one who ought to know"
So I poured in the jar and I started pumpin' and I heard a beautiful sound
Of water bubblin' and splashin' up outta that hole in the ground
I took off my shoes and I drunk my fill of that cool refreshing treat
I thank the Lord and thank the pump and I thank old Desert Pete

"You've got to prime the pump, you must have faith and believe"
"You've got to give of yourself 'fore you're worthy to receive"
"Drink all the water you can hold, wash your face, cool your feet"
"Leave the bottle full for others, Thank You kindly, Desert Pete"

"Drink all the water you can hold, wash your face, cool your feet"
"Leave the bottle full for others, Thank You kindly, Desert Pete"

Thanks to Dave Burns for finding this song and relating it to our stewardship effort this fall. It sure made me think. I hope and prayer it does the same for you.

In the Master's service,

Steve

Message from Pastor Steve

Dear Friends,
I'd like to share a couple of important events with each of you. I hope you will plan to participate.
Saturday, September 15, 2007
Car Wash
The Southern Hills "Youth On Fire" are holding a "Car Wash." It will be held at Cone's Plaza Gas Station just off I-229 and East 10th Street. There will be a 4 cent per gallon discount on all cash gas purchases also! The youth will be washing from 11:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M. There is a little Mexican restaurant in that strip mall, so you could dine while your car is being washed. Nicole Muilenburg says it's a good (simple), inexpensive place to eat.
All youth need to plan to attend! If parents and youth could spread the word, we'll be able to wash a lot of vehicles.
Church Building Renovation
The next couple of Sundays are "dress down" days at church. We will be pulling old carpet and cleaning the floors in preparation for new carpet. Wear your grubbies to church on September 16th and September 23rd. Please bring floor scrapers, shop vacs, and brooms. We will begin the work at 12:30 P.M.

We can use all the help we can get. Please plan on giving a little of your time. If we all do a little, we'll all have to do only a little. We need you!

Let the Adventure Begin!

On Saturday, October 13, Southern Hills Church will be hosting a Web Cast of one of the seven national Promise Keepers events for this year. This is an incredible opportunity for all of us. Unfortunately there are no Promise Keepers events taking place in the Midwest this year. This will provide us the opportunity for the Promise Keepers experience. And this is a great chance for everyone who never had the chance to leave town on a Promise Keepers weekend to get involved. If you've never been to a Promise Keepers event you're missing out. Guys, this is a life-changing event. I've been to two Promise Keepers events now, and each one has rejuvenated me and recharged my faith. Here are the details.

Tithing Cheerfully

Hello, friends. I wanted to share the notes that I used to present a stewardship moment in July on tithing. This was a stewardship moment that was shared with the second service on July 15, the Sunday that we had a big congregational meeting on church finances. Yes, I gave a summarized version of this during the second service, but I believe the whole document has some good information for everyone. For those of you that go to first service, don't worry, I believe I'll have an opportunity to share this with you in person in the near future. Enjoy.

“Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by always having enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every good work.”

- 2 Corinthians 9:7-8

Good morning. I wish to speak to you about stewardship and tithing. I decided to check out tithing on the internet yesterday. I came across several sites dedicated to teaching about tithing. Some of these sites had a list of over 100 scripture verses that reference tithing and giving in general. These are from the sites that support tithing. Now, I also came across a few sites that used scripture to convey their opinion that, though giving to the church is right and good, and that we should give generously, this whole 10% business no longer applies to us today. It’s too old testament, part of the laws and regulations of Moses that were completely abolished and cancelled at the cross. Well, I know some of those laws that are still good practice today.

One of the first verses of scripture that shows us an example of tithing is in the book of Genesis, chapter 28, verses 10-22. This is the passage describing Jacob’s dream and the promises that God makes to him.

Genesis 28:10-22

“Jacob left Beer-Sheba and went towards Haran. He came to a certain place and stayed there for the night, because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones of the place, he put it under his head and lay down in that place. And he dreamed that there was a ladder set up on the earth, the top of it reaching to heaven; and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. And the Lord stood beside him and said, ‘I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and to your offspring; and your offspring shall be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south; and all the families of the earth shall be blessed in you and in your offspring. Know that I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.’ Then Jacob woke from his sleep and said, ‘Surely the Lord is in this place—and I did not know it!’ And he was afraid, and said, ‘How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.’

So Jacob rose early in the morning, and he took the stone that he had put under his head and set it up for a pillar and poured oil on the top of it. He called that place Bethel; but the name of the city was Luz at the first. Then Jacob made a vow, saying, ‘If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat and clothing to wear, so that I come again to my father’s house in peace, then the Lord shall be my God, and this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God’s house; and of all that you give me I will surely give one-tenth to you.’”

God promised many blessings upon Jacob and his descendants. These promises brought about a thankful heart in Jacob. Jacob said that he would offer up one-tenth to God. I want to read that last verse one more time.

“and of all that you give me I will surely give one-tenth to you.”

Jacob recognized that everything he had, land, food, health, family, clothing, and wealth, are blessings that God has bestowed upon him. These are not things that Jacob has made or earned. They are God’s, and God has blessed Jacob with them. And Jacob, out of grateful joy to the Lord has given back a portion of what God has allowed him to have.

We see again in first Chronicles this idea of everything that is in our possession is the property of God. We are merely the stewards, the caretakers of God’s property. Listen to this reading from 1 Chronicles, chapter 29, verse 11-17.

“Yours, O Lord, are the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty; for all that is in the heavens and on the earth is yours; yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all. Riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might; and it is in your hand to make great and to give strength to all. And now, our God, we give thanks to you and praise your glorious name.

‘But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to make this freewill-offering? For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you. For we are aliens and transients before you, as were all our ancestors; our days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no hope. O Lord our God, all this abundance that we have provided for building you a house for your holy name comes from your hand and is all your own. I know, my God, that you search the heart, and take pleasure in uprightness; in the uprightness of my heart I have freely offered all these things, and now I have seen your people, who are present here, offering freely and joyously to you.”

Freely and joyously the people of God gave what they had to build a house for God. Freely and joyously. We also see again the people of God admitting that all things come from God. They cannot feel bad about parting with their gifts, because their gifts were not theirs to begin with.

If I gave you ten dollars, would you begrudge me asking for one dollar back? How about if I gave you a hundred dollars and asked for ten back? Or a thousand dollars, and asked for a hundred back? I’m still giving you nine hundred dollars that you didn’t possess before. What if I gave you ten thousand dollars and asked for one thousand back? Now you tell me that isn’t a blessing.

God even allows us to test him in this. In the book of Malachi God implores us to return to him. In this scripture verse he gives us that opportunity through our ability to be a giving people. Listen to this passage from Malachi, chapter three, verses seven through twelve.

“Ever since the days of your ancestors you have turned aside from my statutes and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of hosts. But you say, ‘How shall we return?’

Will anyone rob God? Yet you are robbing me! But you say, ‘How are we robbing you?’ In your tithes and offerings! You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me—the whole nation of you! Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in my house, and thus put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts; see if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you an overflowing blessing. I will rebuke the locust for you, so that it will not destroy the produce of your soil; and your vine in the field shall not be barren, says the Lord of hosts. Then all nations will count you happy, for you will be a land of delight, says the Lord of hosts.”

We also hear this promise of blessing in the book of Proverbs.

“Honor the Lord with your substance
and with the first fruits of all your produce;
then your barns will be filled with plenty,
and your vats will be bursting with wine.”

How many of you have had the gall to test God on that? Let me rephrase that. How many of you have had the courage to test to God on that? It can be a scary thing to make that decision to give up so much of what we consider to be our “hard-earned income”. We have to worry about the mortgage, the car payments, the monthly electricity, gas, water, garbage bills. That’s a lot to take care of. The thing we forget sometimes, when we’re balancing our checkbook, and deciding whether we can take the family out to the Olive Garden for dinner this weekend, is that the church has those same expenses to take care of.

This church has an incredible heart for ministry. We are kind and generous to those in need. One of the most incredible, and powerful, forms of ministry we have is through our willingness to lift up our brothers and sisters through prayer. This church has seen miracles brought about through the power of prayer. God has truly blessed us by granting us the desires of our heart when those desires are for the benefit of others.

There are a lot of other ministries that go on at this church. Ministries that are not so easily funded as prayer, but ministries that make an incredible difference in the lives of our brothers and sisters. Spend some time helping out with some of the youth activities around here, or the activities that the Education Team organizes, and you’ll see what I mean. We need to make sure that the needs filled by those groups, and all the others at this church are met. We’re all ministers, we’re all part of the outreach that this church makes to the community. Let’s make sure we’re doing all we can to spread God’s love to those who need it through the ministries that this church offers.

Now, I’ve rambled on longer than I intended, but I want to give you one more piece of evidence that supports tithing to your church. That evidence is my family. When I first became a member of a church I was one of those people that would drop five dollars in plate and consider my duty done. If I wanted to feel really good about myself I’d put in ten dollars. My giving increased over time, but I never came close to giving ten percent. I couldn’t imagine parting with that much money.

It was sometime after Rihoko and I were married that we had the tithing discussion. I mentioned the challenge that God offers us in Malachi. Well, we took Him up on it. That was one of the best decisions Rihoko and I could have made. We are soon to be a family of four. We are living off of a single income, and that income is nothing to brag about. But, since we have started tithing, we have never really wanted for anything. We have a roof over our heads, by the grace of God. We have food in our bellies, by the grace of God. We have our heath, by the grace of God. We have the ability to earn an income, by the grace of God. Rihoko and I have a healthy, wonderful son, by the grace of God. In sixteen days our daughter will arrive, by the grace of God. The list doesn’t end, friends.

And we are not blessed only because we have given money to God. We have worshiped our Lord by giving with a cheerful and thankful heart. We have worshiped our Lord by giving of ourselves, our time, our talents, our prayers, and our love for all of you. We will continue to worship the Lord in this way. And we will continue to support His ministry through the people of Southern Hills Church by giving cheerfully, and giving generously. I encourage all of you to prayerfully consider doing the same. Sit down with your spouse and take a look at your finances. If cutting out that weekly pizza can help you increase your giving by a percent or two, try it out. God wants you to put Him to the test. Give cheerfully, and give generously, and God will surely do the same for you.

Online Newsletter Turned Over to Church Staff

Greetings, friends. When this blog was first created I did so as a kind of experiment, acting as the Tech Team, so expand on our presence on the Internet. As this "Unofficial Blog" has been accepted and transformed into the Southern Hills Church Online Newsletter the church staff and I have been discussing authorship on this website. As mentioned in an earlier post anyone can publish church-relevant information on this website. We are, for the sake of consistency, going to limit the number of authors who actually manipulate information in this newsletter.

Southern Hills Church has been set up as the official author of the Southern Hills Church Online Newsletter. The Southern Hills Tech Team (SHC Tech Team) has been removed from the authorship. So who will be writing the articles and updates, or posting your information to the website? There are four people who will be involved at this time. Pastor Steve, Pat Johnson, Jorjann Blake, and myself. By limiting it to the office staff and myself, as a Blog Administrator, we can be consistent with the posting guidelines set up by us and by law. Please refer to some of these guidelines for post submissions as referred to in the aforementioned previous article. At this time I would ask that any articles you wish to submit to the blog be sent directly to me at my personal email address (kanteker@gmail.com). This may change in the future, but for now is simplest for me and the other authors.

Please look for for frequent updates on new and exciting things that are happening at your church. I would also encourage each of you who hasn't to subscribe to the Receive New Post Updates by Email section at the top of the sidebar. If you have any questions, regarding this post or others, please use the "comments" button at the end of each post. This will allow you to post public questions and comments for everyone to read. We can then respond, publicly, and answer any question that may involve multiple people. If you have a question you do not want displayed publicly (and I believe you can sign your comment anonymously) then please contact me directly at my email listed above or in the Contacts section of the sidebar.

Thank you, everyone.

New Links & Online Newsletter

We've added a number of new links to some fun and informational websites that you may not have been aware of. We invite you to check out the Web Links category near the bottom of the side-bar.

It is now official friends. After discussing this with Pastor Steve and some member of the congregation at Southern Hills Church we've decided to change this "Unofficial Blog" into the Online Newsletter for Southern Hills Church. This will not replace any of the current means of communication. Paper newsletters will still be mailed out, mass emails will occasionally be sent out from the church office, other mailings will still be done for important events. This website is simply an attempt to give everyone an additional way to receive new information and to review old information. Every information post that this made on this website will be available in the archives. This includes pictures, sound files, and videos that may be exclusive to this website.

If you wish to receive email notifications on the days when new articles are published to this site please enter your email address in the "
Receive New Post Updates via Email" section at the top of the sidebar. You will then receive an email asking you to confirm your request for email confirmation. Once you click on the link provided in that first email you receive you will be all set. Each day that a new article is published you will receive an email. And don't worry, if there are twenty articles published in one day you will still receive only one email notification.

Also, if there is information that you feel the congregation should be aware of please let me know. We will review the information and, after we're sure everything is in order, we'll publish your announcement or information. The types of things we are looking to be included are exciting updates concerning your Ministry Team, upcoming classes being offered, upcoming activities planned, needs that the congregation can help with, etc. Basically anything that might normally go out in the Newsletter, a mass church mailing on paper or email, or an announcement that would normally be made in front of the congregation would be great to have on this website. Also, if you have pictures of activities that you would like to share please send us those, as well.

Some things to keep in mind when sending us information to post are as follows. Please do not send us pictures of kids under the age of eighteen to pace on the blog. We really need parents' written consent to include any pictures of our youth. You'll note that the article on VBS included pictures of the set and not the children who participated. Also, if you have special announcements that involve other people, especially requests for help or special prayer requests, please insure that the person(s) involved are aware of your intentions and have given you approval. It would be nice if the person(s) involved could even send the request to us directly, or could send an email to me giving me their approval.

This is an exciting time for our church and I'm looking forward to all the wonderful ways an increased Internet presence will help us grow, inward and outward.
